OSUG

Federative structure, the Observatory of Sciences of the Universe of Grenoble (OSUG) regroups 6 research units, 5 associated research teams and 2 service units, under multi-supervision (CNRS, UGA, IRD, USMB, IFSTTAR, Météo-France, G-INP, Irstea). OSUG works in all areas of the Sciences of the Universe, Planet Earth and the Environment : astrophysics, planetology, geophysics, climatology, hydrology, glaciology, ecology ...

Accompanying the research activity in these disciplines, a particular mission of the OSUG is the realization of continuous and systematic observations of the Earth and the Universe, a necessary activity to understand the natural phenomena and the impact of the human activity. In a national network of Observatories of Sciences of the Universe (OSU) within the INSU (National Institute of Sciences of the Universe, CNRS) and in association with other institutes (INEE) and national research organizations and international, teams develop observation instruments (ground-based and embedded telescopes, seismological, atmospheric, hydrometeorological monitoring networks, etc.) or laboratory measurements (optical and X spectrometry, wave pools, etc.), ensure use via campaigns or in support of the user community, manage large databases and disseminate them.

The OSUG ensures the implementation of common tools (computing center, database, geographic information system, geochemical means ...) and technological platforms (integration hall, Envirhonalp platforms, Coriolis rotating platform, characterization of microorganisms MOME ...) at the service of research and observation missions.

Part of University Grenoble Alpes, the Observatory also provides university training in Earth, Universe and Environment Sciences, and actively contributes to the dissemination of knowledge to the public in these disciplines.
